The Upland Series, no. 1

Over the next few months, I will be working on a series of birds known as upland game.  These birds are most commonly known for hunting.  I am learning a tremendous amount of information about each bird as I research, and I would love to hear more from all of you!  I will be sharing some of the fun tid-bits of info along with some work-in-progress. Eventually you'll also see the finished products, but for now, join me along the way.  I hope you can enjoy these little drawings :)

These little guys are called Gambel's Quail, and are native to Arizona and surrounding desert areas.  They are beautiful little ground-dwelling birds, who are monogamous, meaning they have one life mate, much like people and dolphins :) The bird pictured here is a male, with a bright rust and orange colored "cap" outlined by a white stripe and a black "top knot" feather above his face.  These birds are distinguished by such markings, as well as their black spot on their belly, and their brown and white feathers.
