For today I am so happy to share with you some of the projects I’ve been working on for the past month. I had quite a few Christmas commissions, as well as presents, and I had to keep all of them literally “under wraps” until after the holidays.
These three all have sweet stories behind them.
First off, this one,
Portrait of Josh & Travis
The first portrait I have to share with you is especially dear to my heart. Josh and Travis were long-time regulars of mine at Knockbox Café in Humboldt Park Chicago and then at Intelligentsia in Wicker Park Chicago. I loved seeing their sunshiney faces and fabulous style every day bright and early in the morning. Something about working in coffee is really sweet when you start to hear about the lives of the people who walk through your doors each day. Things like…Hey how was your company this weekend?...Have you finished those hardwood floors in your remodel?...Aren’t our neighborhood politics CRAZY??...etc. I really seeing loved these guys. After my husband and I moved to all the way yo SLC you can imagine how ELATED I was when Josh emailed me about a commission. I am so thankful for how coffee can connect people, and how putting your whole heart into your first career can show up in your second one. Cheers.
Next up,
The Car Wash
This seemingly random portrait of a Car Wash is actually a really sweet story. Tarra hired me to do this drawing as a Christmas present for her dear friend in Wyoming. Her friend just recently joined her family’s long-time car wash business and this particuar one was her first franchise to open as a partner to the business. What a great gift idea, right?
And lastly for today,
Mindy, Angie, Maeberry & Bender
The original photograph for this portrait was taken by Hannah Philpot. This one was quite the whirlwind, but I was such a privilege! My husband’s co-worker hired me to do this drawing as a surprise for her partner for Christmas. The fun thing about this one was that it took about 20 hours, but I had only about a day and a half to get it done. As with all my work, I wanted it to have the depth of detail, along with the emotional draw, so it was a real test in diligence and my ability to focus. I am so in love with the colors and those dogs! I am happy to share it with you today!
Happy Friday Friends!
